Which Coffee Creamer from the Store Is the Healthiest?

Coffee isn’t coffee for me unless it has just the right amount of sweetness and cream. And there’s been an inflow of creamers in recent years: dairy, non-dairy, powder, and plant-based – there’s something for everyone these days.

Look for alternatives free of additives, chemicals, artificial sweeteners, and harmful oils when selecting a healthy coffee creamer. You should also avoid coffees with a lot of added sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, as these will add extra calories to your cup of joe.

If you enjoy your coffee creamer as much as I do, I’ve compiled a list of the healthiest store-bought coffee creamers based on your eating pattern.

ORGANIC HALF-AND-HALF DAIRY COFFEE CREAMER

20 calories, 1 1/2 g fat, 1 g carbohydrates, 1 g protein, 1 g sugar per 1 tablespoon serving

Organic milk and cream are used in this recipe.

You can’t beat good, old, organic half-and-half for dairy creamer. It has the creamiest texture without heavy cream’s fat and calories. I advocate using organic, grass-fed creamer since it contains omega-3 fatty acids (around 147 percent more than conventionally raised milk.) Grass-fed milk also has 52 percent fewer omega-6 fats than conventional milk, and eating too many omega-6 fats increases your risk of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.
